We are still looking for skating volunteers for next week. Please contact me if you are able to skate with our class. We need a minimum of 2 volunteers on the ice each day or we will be unable to skate.

The Grade 4 Bake Sale for Camp Warwa was a huge success. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed baking and/or purchased items. The total amount raised to help reduce the cost of the camp was $1,160.70. Your contributions and support with the fundraising is greatly appreciated.

Buddy Bio Poem Writing

A “Buddy Bio Poem” is a fun partner writing activity in which students interview a classmate and write a bio poem about him or her. Bio poems are easy to write because they follow a specific format and they don’t rhyme. The students started by interviewing a partner to gather facts and information about his or her classmate. Then they started to compose short bio poem using information learned during the partner interview.

Reading Comprehension

The students independently read an article about Milton Hershey entitled “The Man Behind the Kiss.” The students were then asked to answer questions to assess their comprehension of the article.

Cursive Writing

We reviewed 3 cursive writing letter this week - Ll, Ee and Nn.

Math

This week we started our Number Sense - Division unit. Goals focused on include:

- recognize which information is provided and which is not among: how many sets, how many in each set, how many altogether. 

- translate among division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction equations.

- use skip counting to divide.

- understand the relationship between division and multiplication

Social

We had the Technology Integration Facilitator for Black Gold out to our class on Tuesday. Mr. Maltais spent half of the day showing our students how to explore Devon and famous landmarks using Google Maps. They used this knowledge and Google Earth to create a virtual tour of the six geographical regions of Alberta. The students really enjoyed working with Mr. Maltais and we are looking forward to having him out to our class in the near future to do a coding activity with the students.

Science

The students worked in partners to answer reading comprehension questions based on more detailed information about 3 types of Simple Machines - pulley, lever and wheel and axle. 

Art

The students were given an opportunity to work on their Digital Memory Album pages this week. This will be an ongoing project throughout the year where they will continue photos to capture memories from each month.

Mrs. Suter's grade 2 class asked for some help with google slides. We partnered up with a student from their class and assisted them with the completion of their Polar Bear presentation. The grade 4 students loved this extra responsibility and took the job very seriously.
